Getting Started with OGC Services
Presented by Airfree Standards Team
Recorded session
This session is available on demand (45 min). Read the overview below, or request a live private walkthrough for your team.
OGC web services are the lingua franca of spatial data delivery — and standing them up is far less daunting than the acronym soup suggests. In this session we go from an empty workspace to four working endpoints in under an hour, then prove each one by querying it live from QGIS and a plain browser client.
What you will learn
- When to reach for WMS, WFS, WMTS, and OGC API Features — and how they differ.
- Publishing a layer to all four endpoint types from a single workspace.
- Querying your new services live from QGIS and from a browser client.
- The bounding-box CRS gotcha that silently returns zero features, and how to avoid it.
Who it is for
GIS analysts and developers who need to serve spatial data to other systems and want a working mental model of the OGC service families rather than a spec-by-spec reading. No prior OGC experience is assumed; a passing familiarity with QGIS helps.
Presenter
Presented by Airfree's standards team, who have spent this session's hour many times over in production migrations. Expect practical defaults and the specific traps worth knowing before you hit them.
